Prison charges after Aussie YouTuber's home destroyed by fire

Mr Shanks-Markovina is best known by his social media name FriendlyJordies.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man in Silverwater Prison on December 20 and charged him with two counts of destroying or damaging property with fire.

"This alleged attack was coordinated and targeted, with more arrests expected in the coming days and weeks ahead," NSW police detective superintendent Gordon Arbinja said.

The arrest comes after police released CCTV of the firebombing with hopes for a breakthrough in the case.

Detective chief inspector Richard Puffett said the two attacks were deliberate, meticulously planned and "by no means" spontaneous.

"I have no doubt that the intent was to create havoc," he said.

"Anyone that's prepared to burn down a residential premises in the middle of the night is looking to harm somebody."

Police believe the YouTuber's political commentary and satire videos could have motivated the attacks.

Mr Shanks-Markovina was placed under police protection as detectives suspected organised criminals could have been responsible.

Police said two linked firebombing attacks on the Bondi street took place within six days.

His neighbour's home was set alight on November 17, 2022 followed by Mr Shanks-Markovina home on November 23.

The stand-up comedian was touring at the time and was not injured.

Police said adjoining houses were evacuated and his neighbours were also uninjured.

Mr Shanks-Markovina posted a video documenting his return to Sydney and first impressions of the crime scene.

"My house was burned down, I haven't seen it yet because I'm coming back from a tour," he said in the 2022 video.

"It looks like it was some heavy-hitters."

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
